Bella Vista (Italian translation – “Beautiful Sight”) was the first Philadelphia neighborhood settled by the Italian immigrants.  As a result, it is home to the 9th St. Italian Market (some people also refer to Bella Vista as the Italian Market Area).  The neighborhood’s Italian Market is the country’s oldest operational open-air market.  As you may imagine, the market is where you can find some of the city’s best cheeses, meats, coffee, pastries, pasta, sandwiches, produce, and more.  Although there’s still a heavy Italian influence, the welcoming of other cultures has transformed the area into a much more diverse neighborhood.  Bella Vista is also renowned for its multiple brunch locations, and some refer to it as the brunch capital of the city.
