Northern Liberties has a reputation as a “hipster” neighborhood (ranked #14 in the nation by Forbes magazine as America’s Best Hipster Neighborhoods). It’s often referred to as NoLibs and boasts some of Philly’s best restaurants, coffee shops, and art galleries. Although the “hipster” label is attached, don’t let that fool you as it’s one of Philadelphia’s hottest neighborhoods, there’s plenty of money flowing through it, and it’s difficult to walk more than half of a block without seeing new construction going up. The Piazza at Schmidt’s is a major attraction, and essentially what initiated the transformation of the neighborhood. Northern Liberties is home to two parks: Orianna Hill & Liberty Lands with the latter being roughly 2 acres. Northern Liberties also houses two stops on the Market-Frankford El line (The Girard St. stop & The Spring Garden St. stop) providing easy access into Center City. 2nd St. is lined with plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops, along with, a Super Fresh grocery store.
